What is the process?
For a first time certification or if your certification has been expired more than 2 years, a 14-hour class is required. Every 2 years you are required to renew your certification with a 4-hour refresher course (can renew up to 180 days before expiration to keep the same date). Class includes general background knowledge of the security field, including laws and descriptions.
Am I Eligible?
Private security providers must be:
At least 18 years of age.
Must have earned one of the following:
A high school diploma
A general Education Development (GED) certificate
A four-year, post-secondary degree issued by an accredited degree-granting college or university.
Be of good moral fitness as determined by a Federal criminal background check (yes they check your prints), department investigation or other reliable sources.
I’ve taken the course, what do I do next?
Complete an application packet containing:

1. PS-1 (Application for Licensure or Certification of Private Security Services Provider)
2. Complete fingerprint card or FieldPrint confirmation email
3. The original Form PS-6 (Affidavit of Instructor and Private Security Provider Testing Results) documenting completion of the training is required.
4. PS-27 Code of Ethics form
5. If currently employed, a completed Form PS-20 (Private Security Services Provider Temporary Work Permit).
6. Nonrefundable certification or licensure fees ($106.25) This can be done with a Credit card form, Business check (No personal checks), or money order.
